This striking artwork inspired by Radio Raheem's "LOVE HATE" showcases Andre Woolery's distinctive artistic vision through a powerful combination of mixed media and oil paint.
The piece features a dramatic black background adorned with meticulous gold vertical lines that create an equalizer-like pattern. At the center, rendered in subtle grayscale tones, is a portrait of Radio Raheem in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing.
Each letter is created from thousands of individual gold and bronze pushpins, creating a textured, three-dimensional effect against the darker background.
The Story Behind the Art
his is one of those pieces you really have to see up close to get. The portrait comes to life through nothing but vertical lines of paint—not a single brushstroke in the traditional sense. Just layers and layers of precise, intentional lines. I combined that with pushpins to add texture and built out the gold four-finger rings for even more depth and dimension. It had to feel loud, bold, in your face—like a Spike Lee film.
What’s wild is that I barely shared it at first. Just a few posts here and there. But somehow, the energy around the piece took on a life of its own. People started reaching out, trying to get it.
Then came the full-circle moment: Kenya Barris bought the original. Just a week later, Spike Lee himself hit me up on Instagram. But by then, the piece was already en route to Los Angeles.
This print captures that moment—the intersection of culture, craft, and timing. It’s a visual experience that demands your attention, and once you feel it, you’ll understand why it resonates so deeply.
